Ohio Master Farmers make up nearly a century of no-till

This year’s Ohio Master Farmers share nearly a hundred years of no-till experience between them.

Piketon County’s Dan Corcoran farms in partnership with his brothers and nephew raising corn, soybeans, wheat, popcorn, and beef cows.

“Our biggest challenge is we farm on a lot of sandy ground so drought is our worst enemy, and we want to find ways to retain moisture,” he shares. “Narrow rows and no-till came first to our operation.”

Myron Wehr has been no-till farming for more than six decades in Columbiana County.

“I could plant an acre corn with two quarts of fuel through the tractor, and that’s getting pretty economical,” he says.

Both were chosen for their lifetime commitment to conservation, agricultural leadership, and farm management.

The awards are presented by the Ohio Farmer Magazine and sponsored by Brownfield Ag News and the Ohio Conservation Tillage & Technology Conference.
