Ohio organizations team up to help southern Ohio producers through drought
Ohio ag organizations have launched the Ohio Hay Directory to help farmers hit by drought.
Jeff Duling is the president of the Ohio Federation of Soil and Water Conservation Districts.
“Their pastures are burning up. There’s no grass to feed their cattle, so now they’re using their hay that they should be using in the winter time when the cattle are off pasture,” he says. “They’re burning that up now. You know, eating that up. So they’re out of hay.”
He tells Brownfield 77% of the state is now in a severe drought.
“Down in southeastern Ohio, southern Ohio, it started with a drought and it’s escalating terribly down there,” he says.”It’s actually moved across the whole state of Ohio actually up here in Northwest Ohio, we’re getting pretty dry too.”
Duling says in addition to the recently announced disaster funding, there are resources available for farmers in need through various ag organizations across the state.
