Ohio Pork Council focused on ag labor, Prop 12 fix in 2026

The president-elect of the Ohio Pork Council is outlining the organization’s top policy concerns for 2026.

Jarred Black says the industry continues to face ag labor challenges.

“We have generational changes and staffing shortages across the area and the state,” he says. “We need to be able to have a good access pool of on-farm labor, we need all the good candidates we have to be able to help us support our industry.”

He tells Brownfield producers are seeking a long-term fix to California’s Proposition 12 law.

“We know what’s best for our animals and we want people to trust that we’re doing everything we can to provide the top level of care,” he says. “At the end of the day, we want to provide a nutritious, nutrient-packed product.”

Black says members will be visiting Capitol Hill and the Ohio Statehouse later this year to speak to legislators about their policy priorities.
