The Ohio Pork Council is helping address food insecurity in rural communities through fresh pork donations across the state.

Jess Stevens, a southern Ohio pork producer, says the organization recently donated more than 300 meals to veterans through the Cleveland-based Volunteers of America Ohio & Indiana.

“For food pantries and other organizations that serve those that are at risk of hunger in our communities, it’s very important to source those nutrient-rich dishes,” she says. “It really can provide health benefits, with a pure and healthy protein, like pork.”

She tells Brownfield fresh pork donations is one way for producers to give back to their local communities.

“Ohio Pork has such a vision that when we see a problem or an opportunity, we’re quick to act to provide pork or volunteer to pitch in and serve the greater good,” she says.

The donation was made in collaboration with the Ohio Pork Council’s 2025-2026 partnership with the Cleveland Browns.
