Ohio Soybean Association says 45Z tax credit should only be for domestic feedstocks

The director of public policy at the Ohio Soybean Association says the organization wants sustainable aviation fuel to be produced domestically.

Brandon Kern tells Brownfield…

“We have a 45Z tax credit. The guidance from the U.S. Treasury is going to be coming out,” he says. “That tax credit becomes effective at the 1st of next year, so it’s really important for soy that we get certain elements of that guidance right.”

He says there needs to be more clarification from Congress.

“That tax credit should only be given to the fuels produced with domestic feed stocks,” he says. “This is a domestic program that’s meant to create a new domestic market. We think that it’s only right that domestic feedstocks that are used to produce the fuel are the ones that are going to benefit.”

Kern says making improvements to the credit would expand opportunities in the sustainable aviation fuel market.
