Ohio State Announces New Dean of CFAES

Dr. Cathann Kress

Ohio State University has named its new dean of the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.

Dr. Cathann Kress is currently vice president for extension and outreach and director of cooperative extension at Iowa State University. If approved she will be the first female to hold the top post at Ohio State’s ag college.  Kress will succeed Dr. Bruce McPheron, who was named executive vice president and provost of Ohio State last June.

Kress earned both doctorate and master’s degrees in education from the University of Iowa, and a bachelor’s of science in social work from Iowa State University.

She has served as a senior policy analyst and program lead for Military Community and Family Policy at the U.S. Department of Defense and was also the director of youth development for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service. Kress is also a trustee to the National 4-H Council.

She will begin May 1st pending approval of Ohio State’s board of trustees.
