Ohio State expands drought resources for farmers statewide 

An ag weather and climate specialist says Ohio State University is expanding its efforts to provide drought resources for farmers across the state.

Aaron Wilson says the College of Food Agricultural and Environmental Sciences has partnered with Ohio Farm Bureau and Nationwide Insurance through the Ag Tech Innovation Hub to create solutions for farmers facing weather-related challenges.

“What we see with these rapid oscillations from extremely wet to extremely dry, water management becomes kind of front and center,” he says. “All of these things are win-win opportunities for farmers to help maintain profitability, keep yields up, keep that soil healthy, and have that drought mitigation.”

He tells Brownfield August 2025 was the driest month on record. 

“Conditions are pretty parched out there,” he says. “I think we can pretty much chalk up September to another dry month. These drought conditions are going to stick around for just a little while longer.”

Wilson says the Drought Rapid Response Team continues to develop new management strategies to help farmers navigate ongoing dry conditions.
