Ohio Wine Month shows state agritourism opportunity

Ohio Wine Month is an opportunity to highlight how the state’s wine industry adds value to the state’s economy.

Christy Eckstein is the Executive Director of the Ohio Grape Industries Committee.

“That provides 40,000 plus jobs and provides $6.6 billion to the state’s economic impact each year,” she says.

She tells Brownfield wineries throughout the state have expanded to provide more options for their customers.

“They are probably one of the gold standards in agritourism and offering those kinds of experiences and options for individuals to be able to stay here in the heart of it all, in Ohio and experience all that Ohio wines are able to provide to them,” she says.

The United States winemaking industry originated in Cincinnati, Ohio in the early 1880’s. Today, Ohio is the seventh largest wine producer in the country.
