Oink Outings program donates 9,000 pounds of pork to Minnesota food bank

Minnesota pig farmers recently donated 6,000 pounds of pork to a Twin Cities food bank.

Minnesota Pork director of events and promotions Pam Voelkel says the donations are based on consumer interactions throughout the summer.

“We take our Oink Outings program and go up into the Metro area, bring farmers along (and) have consumers ask farmers questions. And then for every question we receive, we make a 1 pound of ground pork donation to Second Harvest Heartland.”

She tells Brownfield Minnesota Pork partners with Compeer Financial.

“They came in and donated another 3,000 pounds of pork. So last Thursday a group of us went up to Second Harvest Heartland up in the Twin Cities (and) donated 9,000 pounds of ground pork through our Oink Outings program. It’s just wonderful to be able to do that for the communities.”

Voelkel says the 9,000 pounds of ground pork is enough to feed 36,000 people.
