One Wisconsin SAF bill passes, another fails
One of the two bills in the Wisconsin legislature designed to promote sustainable aviation fuel production has been signed into law.
Monday, Governor Tony Evers signed AB619 known as the Forestry Revitalization Act. This new law authorizes the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation to certify one business for up to 120 million dollars in tax credits for producing SAF from wood, with 80% of the feedstock sourced within Wisconsin.
The new law benefits Synthec Fuels and Johnson Timber, who are developing the SAF production plant in Hayward. The plant is slated for completion in 2029.
Another package of legislation, AB222 and SB282, would have created a tax credit of $1.50 per gallon for producers of SAF using crops as feedstock. That legislation failed to get a floor vote in either chamber before the legislative session ended.
