Operation Evergreen

Operation Evergreen tree tag_webSince 1995 the Ohio Christmas Tree Association has been delivering trees to troops stationed overseas.

“The trees are collected throughout the state of Ohio and we bring them down to the ODA (Ohio Department of Agriculture) and they are inspected for overseas transport,” said Amy Galehouse of Doylestown (Ohio), who serves as the coordinator of Operation Evergreen. “Then we re-package tem and put them in boxes, along with ornaments that are made by scout troops, school groups and other people who donate ornaments for us to stick in the boxes with the trees.”

This year’s trees are going to troops stationed in Kuwait.

“Anything from home is really important,” Galehouse said. “It’s just a way to say “Merry Christmas” to them all.”
