Optimism for a turnaround in ag equipment sales

The ag division president for Great Plains Manufacturing says there is some hope for a turnaround for ag equipment sales in 2025.

James Shurts tells Brownfield more orders are starting to come in and are more relevant.

“There’s no ambiguity in the election. It’s done,” he says. “We know where our path is and there’s a lot of renewed optimism now that we’re going to see a meaningful farm bill in the next coming months or at least some trends toward getting to a meaningful farm bill.”

He says getting a farm bill done could help improve buying confidence.

“As long as we can get back to the table and start to get more demand for the product out there — that pass through, that flow through — you start to generate more income and have more stability in the flow of commodity pricing and input costs. As long as we can stabilize that, farmers are resilient,” he says. “We’ve got to get the tenants in place to make sure they have the confidence to continue to invest in their business.”

Shurts says ahead of a market rebound, the company will continue to push new technology, including autonomous farm equipment.

Brownfield interviewed Shurts at the National Association of Farm Broadcasting convention in Kansas City.
