The owner of one of the largest sale barns in the country says there was a significant improvement in the market this week. Jackie Moore with Joplin Regional Stockyards in Missouri says buyers were active. “They called it $10 to $30 higher,” he says.  “Some of these calves were probably $40 to $50 higher.”

He says the market has seen some volatility in recent weeks.  “But I’m not that scared of the market,” he says.  “It’s going to have some ups and downs, but if everyone would just be quiet and go back to doing business, we’d all be in good shape in about a week.”

Moore tells Brownfield he’s still seeing a lot of producers make investments back into their herds.  “Everybody has made some money and they’re going to spend some of it back on these cattle,” he says.  “We sold two or three loads of 800-pound steers that were really-green, nice black yearlings.”

He says the quality of the cattle that have been selling has ranged from average to very good.
