Paap testifies on trade
The president of Minnesota Farm Bureau is warning members of Congress that if the U.S. fails to act on trade deals, other countries will take advantage.
Kevin Paap testified before a congressional subcommittee hearing on expanding trade and eliminating barriers Tuesday, saying now is the time to approve the Trans Pacific Partnership.
“It means $4.4 billion to agriculture. It means American jobs. So (the TPP) is really first on the list.”
He tells Brownfield bilateral trade agreements like the TPP help the U.S. stay competitive globally.
“If we don’t take advantage, others will step in our place. One out of every three acres planted is for exports. One out of every four manufacturing jobs depends on exports. It’s about jobs as well.”
Paap says Farm Bureau also supports the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership as well as normalized relations with Cuba.
