Perdue remains hopeful that a modernized NAFTA is within reach
Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue says he is hopeful a new North American Free Trade Agreement can be reached with Mexico soon.
“We believe that we’ve got many of the agreements in principle there,” he says.
He told reporters that US will likely get an agreement in place with Mexico first.
“And then move to Canada and resolve the remaining issues we have with Canada,” he says.
US trade officials recently expressed concern that NAFTA renegotiations would come to a halt because of the presidential election in Mexico. But, there are reports that the new president has said he hopes to reach a mutually beneficial NAFTA resolution.
Perdue made the comments in Washington, during his Back to Our Roots tour.
