Peterson votes against TPA

Minnesota Congressman Collin Peterson voted against Trade Promotion Authority for the President Friday.

The ranking member of the House Agriculture Committee issued a statement saying, “I cannot support TPA until the full scope of the pending trade agreement is made clear.”  Peterson says he doesn’t have adequate answers about the agreement’s potential gains or losses, especially those to agriculture and rural communities.

The House did pass TPA 219 to 211, but rejected Trade Adjustment Assistance, or TAA.   This means the bill will now have to go back to the Senate, which will not approve it without TAA.
