Pheasants, quail, chukars impacted in new Iowa HPAI detection
Another highly pathogenic avian influenza case involving game birds has been confirmed in northern Iowa.
The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship says the impacted site is a multi-species game bird hatchery in Kossuth County. State officials tell Brownfield that 25,000 total birds – which includes pheasants, quail and chukars – will be depopulated.
On January 23rd, a similar case was also reported in Kossuth County where 7,000 pheasants and 120 chickens were depopulated.
The state’s poultry producers and backyard flock owners are urged to bolster their biosecurity practices and protocols.
