Plan to not have over-the-top dicamba for 2025
Missouri’s Ag Director says over-the-top dicamba herbicides won’t likely be available in 2025 and farmers should plan accordingly.
Chris Chinn tells Brownfield “we’ve been in contact with the EPA encouraging them to re-register this product for the 2025 growing season. Every indication we’re getting is we won’t be on track to have that before 2025. Miracles can happen, but I’m not holding out hope.”
Paul Bailey Plant Industries Director at the MDA says older formulation dicamba products will be available.
“Banvel, Clarity and a bunch of other products that have been on the market since the 1940s,” he says. “They were never labeled for post-emergent use and they cannot be used for post-emergent use on top of soybeans or cotton.”
University of Missouri Extension Weed Scientist Kevin Bradley says there are other herbicide options for farmers, including 2,4-D and glufosinate, but Bradley says longer-term, farmers should do the best work possible with pre-emergence residuals and integrated weed management.
