Planter parked, sprayer going

A southwestern Wisconsin farmer is battling weeds now that the planter is back in the shed.

Mike Berget tells Brownfield he wrapped up planting more than 11-thousand acres of corn and soybeans, but now, it’s time to go after the yield-robbing weeds. “I’m seeing the foxtails coming, you know, just like the corn, whenever the corn starts coming out, the giant ragweeds and the foxtails are coming, so I mean it’s nice to get it killed when it’s small.”

And Berget says spraying early has another big advantage. “Yeah, you don’t have to use the higher rates then, too. It helps on the cost.”

Berget farms near Darlington, Wisconsin about ten miles north of the Illinois border and 25 miles east of Dubuque, Iowa.
