Planter preparations underway

Farmers are dialing in equipment for spring fieldwork.

And Stine Seed director of agronomy Tom Larson says the most important tool that needs to be addressed is the planter.

“And make sure that planter is in tiptop shape and ready to go out and ready to work.”

He tells Brownfield anything that turns or makes contact with the soil should be evaluated, starting with disc openers.

“Make sure that your disc openers measure to your equipment specifications. So many times we’ll go out and we’ll evaluate a challenge later on, only to find out that the seed depth is incorrect.”

Larson also recommends checking tires and lights, making sure the planter is level, lubricating bearings and chains, and checking for kinks.
