Planters keep rolling in Missouri

Corn planting has picked up, with 33% of Missouri’s corn in the ground compared to just 9% a week ago.  Six percent of the corn has emerged, which is about 2% ahead of average.

Fifteen percent of Missouri’s soybeans are planted.  That’s far ahead of the 6% five-year average, and 10% ahead of last week.

Cotton planting is off to a slower start with just 2% of the cotton planted, compared to 1% a week ago.

Rice planting is 18% complete, 12% ahead of last week but far below the five-year average of 29%. Seven percent of the rice has emerged.

Thirteen percent of Missouri’s winter wheat has headed compared to 9% last week.  That’s 5% ahead of the five-year average.  Seventy-three percent of the state’s wheat is in good to excellent condition.

USDA says Missouri had 5.2 days last week that were suitable for fieldwork.  Twenty-eight percent of the topsoil had excess moisture, with 66% having adequate moisture, and 5% good moisture levels.
