Planting progress picks up in Iowa

Planting progress picked up in Iowa last week.

In the latest USDA weekly crop progress and conditions report 18% of corn in the state is now planted.  That’s up 16% from last week, and 6% ahead of the five-year average.

Soybean planting reached 11 percent, which is 10% ahead of last week, and 4% ahead of average.

Oats are 68 percent planted, 8% behind last year, but 8% ahead of the five-year average.  Twenty-three percent has emerged, 9% ahead of the average pace.

Topsoil moisture conditions are rated 72% adequate, with around 60 percent of the subsoil moisture rated adequate.
