Pork donations an option in MO this summer

Hog farmers and Missouri 4-H and FFA swine exhibitors can donate their pigs or pork to the Drive to Feed Kids Hogs for Hunger Program this summer, presented by Missouri Farmers Care.

Missouri Farmers Care Executive Director Ashley McCarty says local donations can be made after county fairs or anytime.

“Individuals can book a processing appointment at a federal or state inspected processing facility, coordinate with a local food pantry to receive the pork and the Missouri Farmers Care Foundation will reimburse the individuals making the donation for $1.25/pound, up to $125.”

For the Missouri State Fair, up to 50 pigs will be accepted and exhibitors must complete a letter of commitment by August 5. Pigs will be released early on Saturday, August 12 after the show to be processed at Kempf’s Custom Butchering in Sedalia.

“We have five letters of commitment already accepted, with five more to be reviewed. There’s room for about 40 more hogs at this time.”
