Pork leaders urge support for Prop 12 fix in farm bill
The National Pork Producers Council is urging people to contact federal lawmakers to support the Proposition 12 fix in the farm bill.
Keri Retallick with the Wisconsin Pork Association says, “If we don’t get it into this farm bill, we’re really concerned that it won’t be in for a long time.”
Retallick tells Brownfield now is the time to tell elected officials how important this farm bill Prop 12 language is. “What we want to be able to do is that we have something nationwide, that we don’t have piecemeal type legislation in all of the different states, so our hope is that we work together and get this fix into the farm bill.”
Retallick says pork producers already use the national We Care program, the Pork Quality Assurance certification program, and the Transport Quality Assurance program to take great care of their animals, and Prop 12 is unnecessary and expensive for producers and consumers.
