Potato and hay harvesting continues in Wisconsin

It was a dry start of the week for much of Wisconsin.  USDA statistician Greg Bussler says rainfall later in the week limited an otherwise productive week. Field activities included harvesting small grains, potatoes, and cutting hay.

Sixty-four percent of Wisconsin’s corn is in excellent condition, up one percent from last week.  Corn silking was 90 percent complete, with 61% in the dough stage and 16% of the corn in the dent stage.

Ninety-five percent of the Wisconsin soybean crop was blooming. Eighty-three percent of soybeans were setting pods last week. Sixty-two percent of the soybeans are 62% percent good to excellent.

Seventy-nine percent of the oats have been harvested. Winter wheat harvested for grain was 97% complete. The third cutting of alfalfa hay is 82% complete and fourth cutting was 12% finished.  All hay condition was rated 77% good to excellent.

The potato harvest is now 20% complete. Ninety-two percent of the Wisconsin potatoes are in good to excellent condition.

Pasture and range condition was rated 60% good to excellent.
