Prairie Farms closes Alabama operations

Illinois-based dairy cooperative Prairie Farms has announced it is closing its plant in Homeward, Alabama at the end of the month.  The company will also close seven other facilities in Alabama along with its four operations in Georgia. 

Dairy producers who shipped their milk to these locations will now have to find a different cooperative to work with and it is unknown where the milk will be directed.  Prairie Farms has not released how many dairy producers this will impact.

Prairie Farms was founded in 1938 and is made up of more than 800 locally-owned farms.
