Pre-harvest combine prep

Many corn and soybean farmers are preparing equipment for harvest.

Jarrad Bourne with Ziegler Ag Equipment recommends a walkaround of the combine.

“Make sure you pull all the shields off, stick your head in there to all the places you don’t look at very often.”

He also encourages a pre-harvest visit from a local technician.

“Typically when you’re done you’ll get a good readout of what they see. It’s confidence-boosting on the condition that you’re good to go, or if you’re not they’ll point you in the direction and offer solutions for you.”

And Bourne tells Brownfield combine heads are often overlooked.

“We recommend starting with a good walkaround on those as well, because those live in a pretty aggressive and abrasive environment when they’re working. So get it up off the ground, get it on your combine.”

Bourne says farmers should also make sure the latest software updates are installed to ensure the GPS receiver communicates with satellite and that all systems communicate properly with each other.
