Prepared meat Product Center to benefit producers, consumers
A leader with the North American Meat Institute says a new searchable database of nutritious prepared meat options will benefit producers.
Eric Mittenthal is the vice president of public affairs.
“Ultimately that drives sales and increases a level of trust with the industry and producers in that we are providing a lot of choices and the information on how to find those choices and I think it’s a win-win,” he says.
He tells Brownfield the Product Center lists prepared meat like bacon, hot dogs, and deli meats, and helps consumers find low fat, low sodium, and American Heart Association certified options.
“People get a lot of mixed messages about products and worry that they are not as nutritious as other meat products but the reality is they come with a great deal of nutrition,” he says. “So we wanted to be able to provide a guide to products that are available and help people find them if that’s what they’re interested in.”
The site has a full nutrition profile on most products and information on where they can be purchased.
