President Trump to announce farmer aid package today

President Trump is expected to unveil an assistance package for farmers this afternoon.

According to Bloomberg, the program will distribute up to $11 billion in one-time payments, with the remaining $1 billion going to commodities not covered by the new program.

American Farm Bureau Federation president Zippy Duvall says the aid is appreciated. “But, even at the high range that we’re hearing, it still won’t be enough,” he says.

During his stop at the Kansas Farm Bureau annual meeting this weekend, Duvall told reporters there could be a possibility for additional funding. “Someone in the administration has said that they’re going to be looking to Congress to come in behind it with more if the Congress feels like it should,” he says.

President Trump is expected to make the announcement this afternoon at 2pm Eastern.
