Producers advocate for policy changes impacting ranch operations

Cattle producers bring their policy concerns to Capitol Hill.

Attendees of this year’s event are meeting with their state’s Congressional representatives and staffs throughout the day to share priorities impacting their operations.

Eastern Nebraska cow/calf producer Devin Jakub says the devastation from wildfires and ongoing drought in his state elevates the needs for more flexibility is disaster relief programs. “There’s a lot of regeneration of soil, pastures, water supplies, fences and all that, so getting them the funds they need and getting it to them in a timely fashion.”

Central Tennessee cow/calf producer and executive vice president of the state’s cattlemen’s association Dale Parker says rolling back protections of black vultures could help improve profitability. “As producers, we need to be able to protect our livestock and our investment, we may need to take a vulture. It’s not suggesting that we eliminate the vulture, just to help us protect our herd and our livestock.”
