Producers see slight bump in turkey hatchings, but 2025 output still trails 2024

U.S. turkey hatchery numbers during August were up on the month, but down on the year.

The numbers generally fall in line with expectations for lower production in 2025 than in 2024.

The USDA says 21.243 million turkey eggs hatched last month, 6% more than in July, while 20.54 million poults were placed into meat production, a month-to-month gain of 4%, but both are 1% lower than last year.

On September 1st, there were 23.942 million turkey eggs in incubation, a decline of 4% on the month and 3% on the year.

The USDA sees 2025 turkey production at 4.837 billion pounds, slightly above the August projection, but about 300 million lower than a year ago.

The USDA’s next annual turkey production update is out October 9th.
