Promising future for U.S. ethanol exports

The USDA’s Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs says ethanol exports should be a bright spot for years to come.

Alexis Taylor says market expansion for U.S. biofuels has been strong, and the Philippines could be an important trading partner in 2025.

“Philippines recently moved to finalize moving to E20 on a voluntary measure,” she said. “They currently have mandatory E10 blending and so huge opportunity as they look to expand their ethanol on-road vehicle opportunities.”

She tells Brownfield, “That could open up another $250 million annually of additional ethanol exports.”

Taylor says the consistency of exports to Canada will be critical. “They remain our top ethanol export market,” the Under Secretary said.

Data from the Renewable Fuels Association shows nearly one-third of the country’s ethanol exports go to Canada.
