Prop 12 could reach far beyond agriculture
The CEO of Minnesota Pork suggests the impact of California’s Proposition 12 could be felt beyond agriculture.
Jill Resler tells Brownfield while the rule has to do with housing requirements for pigs, it could set a dangerous and far-reaching precedent.
“States are making decisions based on their political views across the country.”
She says Prop 12 is really about perceptions of California citizens, not what’s best for the animals.
“So we can quickly think of lots of other topics that that same rationale could be applied to, and now we have a state precedent that could impact those things across the country.”
She says the Prop 12 ruling has compounded economic challenges many pig farmers are facing.
Resler made these comments during Brownfield affiliate KNUJ’s Women In Ag Forum Thursday afternoon.
