Protect stored farm equipment
Farmers are encouraged to consider problems that can arise when machinery is stored over the winter.
Ken Huening is the CEO of CoverSeal, a company that makes patented vehicle covers that protect against rodents.
“Farm equipment provides a really nice, safe place for them to hide. A warm spot, that’s one thing. But these nooks and crannies that these things are allowed to reside in are what keeps them away from predators, so it’s a great hideaway.
Come spring, he tells Brownfield rats, mice, and other rodents can take a toll on machinery.
“A lot of tractors and other farm equipment are now incorporating wire harnesses to connect all the sensors, and when that happens the rodents love to get into these spots where there’s a wiring harness and love to much on this stuff.”
Huening says his product works as a weighted apron to seal the cover to the ground, preventing critters of all shapes and sizes from lifting the cover’s heavy edge.
