Protecting trade a priority

The CEO of the Missouri Corn Growers Association says protecting trade relationships will be crucial to the ag economy.

Bradley Schad tells Brownfield it’s vital that farmers are protected if U.S. agriculture is hit with retaliatory tariffs. “Making sure that our partners understand that we want free and fair trade,” he says.  “And making sure that those partnerships, those relationships, that we have built over the last 20 years, aren’t harmed by this.”

He says the trade relationships the U.S. ag industry has developed are strong. “But they can be broken down pretty easy if we don’t do it the right way,” he says.  “So, educating the administration moving forward.”

Schad says the association is also focused on strengthening the market for E-15. “We’ve talked with the governor, to make sure that the state implementation of E15 can happen,” he says. “We’ve accomplished that and continue to move forward to hopefully get a federal fixed where all the states can use E15.”

He says strong demand for U.S. corn and corn products is crucial as farmers face a tighter farm economy.
