Purdue University partnering with Bayer to further regenerative agriculture

The executive vice president of research at Purdue University says a new partnership with Bayer is aimed at expanding the reach of regenerative agriculture.

Dr. Karen Plaut tells Brownfield…

“The college really started focusing on regenerative ag as an area where together we can make some real inroads and help our farmers move forward.”  She says, “So, it’s been exciting. We’ve done a lot of things together and we’re excited about the partnership just strengthening.”

She says the Coalition for Sustainable and Regenerative Agriculture will utilize the university’s network of field sites and capabilities.

“So it’s education, it’s research, and I can never forget workforce development, in terms of helping our students learn, but basically really understanding how do we build this landscape for the future,” she says.

Plaut says the goal is to better understand and implement soil health building practices.

“It is all about making sure that the soil and the environment is healthy for the next generation, but there’s many different solutions to regenerative agriculture depending on where you are and what your goals are,” she says.

Plaut says the groups hope to expand the coalition to other partners from the agricultural sector, allowing for an even larger network of regenerative ag field sites.

The coalition will be administered through Bayer at Convergence, the company’s innovation center at Discovery Park District at Purdue.
