Push for year-round E15 ramping up as 2025 nears

Biofuel groups are still pursuing a federal fix for year-round E15.

Robert White, senior vice president of industry relations and market development for the Renewable Fuels Association, says yearly summer waivers are not a long-term solution.

“Next year the springtime is going to be madness when it comes to E15,” he said. “If we get to the summer driving season and E15 is not legislatively fixed, then what happens?”

Speaking to Brownfield at the 2024 Farm Progress Show, he said eight Midwestern states can sell the fuel year-round beginning in 2025 but more needs to be done.

“It’s on all of us right now to put the pressure on,” White said. “Make sure you are talking to your elected officials. If they support E15, make sure they know what the bill is. If they are not for it, then pressure them as well. Our incremental gains in ethanol right now are going to rest on E15 and E85 success.”

White says some petroleum fuel retailers have supported a federal solution.
