Pushing yields to the next level in 2025
A central Illinois based agronomist says farmers should take several factors into consideration when making seed selections for next year.
Steve Crafton with LG Seeds says corn hybrids should be placed based on each field’s soil type.
“If you don’t have let feet hybrid down to a mucky soil river bottom ground, you can lose 8 to 10 bushel corn pretty easily,” he says. “Hybrid placement is a big thing.”
Commodity prices are lower and he tells Brownfield farmers need to get the most out of every acre.
“Even before we plant the corn, I think it’s a good idea to sit down with your seed advisor or your agronomist in the winter months and and do a field by field placement,” he says. “We’re giving those hybrids the best chance to yield the most.”
He says hybrid selection is key for disease protection in 2025.
