Questions about water resources management in Indiana
The Indiana State Senate has introduced several bills during this year’s legislative session to address water resources management across the state.
Purdue University’s Jane Frankenberger says the industrial development project in Boone County has raised questions about water quantity.
“People feel that not enough is known about the potential impacts of that on the people who currently use the water,” she says.
She tells Brownfield there are currently no state regulations in place.
“There’s no pre-analysis as to whether your withdrawal will conflict with other withdrawals or cause any problems for other users of the groundwater,” she says. “That will not be checked.”
Frankenberger says having effective water management will ensure long-term availability for Indiana’s ag industry.
Brownfield spoke to Frankenberger at the 2025 Fort Wayne Farm Show.
