R-CALF, Farmers Union urge cattle producers to file claims

Cattle producers affected by the alleged anticompetitive practices from JBS, Tyson, Cargill, and National Beef are urged to file a claim.

Bill Bullard with R-CALF USA tells Brownfield litigation continues against three of the big four packers, but JBS has agreed to an 83.5 million dollar settlement. “We’ve been litigating for six years with the goal of trying to recover for U.S. cattle producers the monies we allege they have lost because of the alleged collusion.”

Bullard says now R-CALF and co-plaintiff National Farmers Union are working to reach producers who are eligible for part of the settlement. “We want to try to reach everyone who is eligible to file a claim, and we don’t know what that number is.”

Bullard says cattle feeders who directly sold fed cattle for slaughter to the defendants between June 1, 2015 and February 29, 2020 or anyone who held a long position in live cattle futures traded on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange prior to June 1, 2015 and then liquidated that long position before November 1, 2016 should file a claim.

September 15, 2025 is the filing deadline for the JBS settlement.  Affected producers can go online to  www.cattleantitrustsettlement.com to answer questions and start their claims.

Bullard says lawsuits against Tyson, Cargill, and National Beef are still being litigated.
