Rain a welcome sight for Wisconsin wheat and fall tillage

The rain from late last week delayed some Wisconsin harvesting, but improved soil moisture and winter wheat conditions.

USDA reporters say harvesting continued without interruption early in the week, but by Sunday, Wisconsin had from half an inch to more than three inches of rainfall, with scattered reports of snow.

Eighty-two percent of the winter wheat has emerged, and 72% of that is in good to excellent condition.  Thanks to the rainfall, that’s six percent better than a week ago.

Eighty-one percent of corn for grain has been harvested., twenty days ahead of the five-year average.

The soybean harvest is 98% finished.

The cranberry harvest is mostly finished as of Sunday.

Fall tillage in Wisconsin is now 63% finished, but there have been reports of difficulty with hard soils prior to the rainstorm.
