Rain and floods result in crop and livestock losses in Minnesota

Rain and flooding limited fieldwork and resulted in livestock losses last week in Minnesota.

USDA’s latest weekly crop report says while some parts of the state got a reprieve from the rain, others received several inches.

Farmers applied pesticides where they could get in fields.

Corn rated in good to excellent condition fell to 62 percent, with three percent silking.

Soybeans are called 62 percent good to excellent, and 19 percent of the crop is blooming.

Small grains are faring better, with 86 percent of spring wheat, 80 percent of barley, and 77 percent of the oat crop considered good to excellent.

The first cutting of alfalfa reached 87 percent, with the second cutting at 14 percent.
