Rain delays planting but improves soil moisture across Iowa

Many farmers across Iowa have halted their planting progress this week.

But State Ag Secretary Mike Naig says it’s for a good reason.

“We desperately needed moisture in so many places in the state of Iowa and here it comes. This is exactly when you’d like to be getting it. I think when it does get fit and when it dries out folks are going to hit it really hard.”

He tells Brownfield soil conditions are showing a promising outlook for the growing season.

“I think we could see some big numbers when we do finally get running here.”

Naig says the recent rains are expected to play a key role in early-season crop development.
