Rain helps Indiana crops, slows field progress

Rain and warm weather prevailed much of last week as farmers tried to spray and sidedress fields.  According to the latest Crop and Weather report, 100 percent of the field corn is emerged and 74 percent of the crop is rated good to excellent.

Soybean planting neared completion as 96 percent of the crop is in the ground with 91 percent emerged;   70 percent of the crop is rated good to excellent.

Wheat harvest is underway with 13 percent of the crop harvested.  Thirty-six percent of the crop has reached maturity and 77 percent of the crop is coloring.  Sixty-nine percent of the crop is rated good to excellent.

Hay cutting was difficult in the wetter parts of the state and mid-week rains did damage some of last week’s cut hay that was left open to dry.  Range and pasture conditions are rated 70 percent good to excellent.
