Real Christmas Tree Board: online farm tours becoming staple for classrooms
The Real Christmas Tree Board Executive Director says virtual farm tours are likely to become an annual tradition.
Marsha Gray tells Brownfield, “The response has been phenomenal.”
“I can’t imagine us not doing this anymore, as young people are more and more removed from the farm and from their sources of food and other products like ours, they’re really missing something,” she says.
The organization started last season partnering with classrooms across the country for online visits to help students learn about the decade-long journey of a real tree.
“They’re watching in real time as a Christmas tree producer is showing what he or she does on the farm,” she explains. “What does it look like to plant? What does it look like to harvest? All the different parts of taking care of the farm.”
Oregon host Tyler Stone had thousands of students on his farm to learn about the process from the nation’s largest producing state.
“My dad started it over 60 years ago, and I fell in love with it,” he shares. “Now my son Luke is falling in love with it as well. We got three generations all working on the farm here with my brothers as well and their families.”
