Recent Ohio Pork donations expected to help feed more than 18,000 families statewide

The president-elect of the Ohio Pork Council says the organization is helping address food insecurity through its annual Pork Power program.
Jarred Black says producers recently donated $6,000 to the Freestore Foodbank in Greater Cincinnati and the Mid-Ohio Food Collective.
“This time of year, as we move into the summertime, food banks have a greater need for protein,” he says. “It’s a great way for farmers to give back and provide those areas with high-quality, nutritious protein.”
He tells Brownfield the initiative is a way for producers to highlight the industry’s We Care principles.
“We’re focused on the well-being of people, animals, and the planet,” he says. “We care more about just the bottom dollar on the farm. We want to promote sustainability and build relationships with the consumers in our communities.”
The donations are expected to provide meals to more than 18,000 families statewide.
