Reconciliation bill one step from House Floor
The reconciliation package is one step away from a vote on the House Floor.
Compeer Financial vice president of legislative affairs Perry Aasness says the budget bill is currently being reviewed by the House Rules Committee.
“Speaker Johnson has been pretty consistent to this point, he wants to get a bill passed off the House Floor by the Memorial Day recess. His challenge is he has to figure out a pathway to getting 218 votes.”
With a narrow majority in the House, he tells Brownfield Speaker Johnson can only afford to lose three members of his caucus.
“Assuming this is going to be a party-line vote, and so that is where all the horse trading conversations are going on right now with some of his colleagues.”
Aasness says the House reconciliation package includes several pieces beneficial to agriculture, including tax provisions and a stronger farm safety net.
