Rep. Allen abandons effort to drop America’s Dairyland from Wisconsin plates

The author of a bill to drop the “America’s Dairyland” slogan from Wisconsin license plates says the bill will die at the end of the legislative session.

Representative Scott Allen issued a statement Wednesday saying that since offering the bill, his office has received a lot of feedback, and most people are opposed to the change.

Allen says although there is a small percentage of people who would like to see that label removed from the plate, he has learned most would rather we keep it.

The Waukesha Assemblyman says the thought behind the bill was to initiate a more generic image which might apply to a broader segment of Wisconsin’s population.

Governor Scott Walker has already said he would not support the bill.

Allen’s district in southeastern Wisconsin is primarily urban just west of Milwaukee but does include a processing plant for Lifeway Foods, which makes kefir in the former Golden Guernsey facility.
