Rep. Hinson backs foreign land ownership bill

U.S. Congresswoman Ashley Hinson says foreign ag land ownership continues to be one of her top concerns.

The Iowa Republican says she recently co-sponsored the No American Land for Communist China Act, which would prohibit foreign adversaries from purchasing U.S. land and ag land near federal property. “Communist China is not buying up American land by coincidence. It is an intentional land grab to gain access to national security information and I believe to exert control over our food supply chain.”

Hinson says she also supports similar legislation that would provide stricter oversight for farmland purchases. “Making sure that not only our ag secretary can have more oversight on the purchases but also CFIUS is doing its job to actually track these purchases and transactions.”

She says food security should be considered by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) in its national security reviews.
