Rep. Hinson backs Trump’s trade dispute with China
Some lawmakers say President Trump’s tariff dispute with China will be good for ag producers in the long run.
U.S. Congresswoman Ashley Hinson says she supports the president’s recent trade strategy.
“It’s about negotiation and leverage, and laying out a way where we can level that playing field,” she said.
In a press call Thursday, the Iowa Republican said the tariffs on Chinese goods should help farmers gain access to new markets.
“It needs to be coupled with tough enforcement on the tariff front, duty front, the transnational shipment evasion front, and it needs to be coupled with efforts like we’ve heard Brooke Rollins announce at USDA to expand markets for our producers. So that we’re not having all of our eggs in one basket with China.”
As of Friday, China has a 125 percent tariff on U.S. good and the U.S. has a 145 percent tariff on Chinese goods.
